An exciting start!

This is exciting, the first blog post for my first shiny new website!
I feel like I'm living the dream. For the last 7 months I have had the privilege of making the most of being selected for the De Beer's Intermediate Jewellery scholarship, and taking various classes at Morley college (https://www.morleycollege.ac.uk/). This has allowed me to spend time developing my jewellery skills as well as dipping my toes into learning about other crafts like pottery and mosaics and trying to find ways to incorporate them into my jewellery designs.
With this pendant below, I made the most of what I learnt in mosaic, though this is more of a version of micro mosaics. I cut the stones into tiny pieces and then added them to the recycled, textured silver setting.
I also spent a lot of time just playing with colour, using tools to cut up smalti (glass) and ceramic and seeing what came of it. I really enjoyed the freedom of not being committed to the outcome and just freely crafting. I love the way this slate tile came out, it's hanging around in my kitchen, waiting for me to decide what it's going to become!
I was able to also find the time to wonder around London, being inspired by a variety of things from, drain covers outside the Horniman Museum, https://www.horniman.ac.uk/ and going to places like the conservatory at the Barbican https://www.barbican.org.uk/whats-on/2024/event/visit-the-conservatory, which has been on my list for ages.
Another fantastic development has been to have won a competition, and for the first prize to be the chance to have my worked stocked by award winning, Silver and Steel Jewellery Studios, https://www.silverandsteelstudios.co.uk/. I'm thrilled! In September a selection of items will be for sale in their Bristol based gallery. Including items from my new Wave capsule collection.
So all in all it's been brilliant few months and I hope that the rest of the year carries on in the same vein!
